About the Role
We invite applications from scholars of international distinction to join the Centre for Digital Music of Queen Mary University of London (https://c4dm.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/), a world-leading multidisciplinary research group in the field of Music & Audio Technology. Positions are available across all academic levels: Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader and Professor. Post holders will contribute to teaching and research in C4DM and the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.
About You
To apply, you should have a PhD and must have an appropriate track-record of high-quality research in Sound and Music Computing or related disciplines including Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Music/Audio Technology, Physics, Mathematics, Music Performance/Composition, Musicology, or Psychology.
Priority areas in the centre include: Generative AI, Explainable AI for Music and Audio, Neural Audio Synthesis, Computational and Virtual Acoustics, Multimodal Processing for Music and Audio, Novel Musical Instruments and Interactive Music Technology, Music Signal Processing, Computational Sound Scene Analysis, Music Informatics, and Semantic Audio.
If you have expertise in other areas of Sound and Music Computing, you are strongly encouraged to apply as the areas are not limited to the above list.
It is essential that you have clear and ambitious plans for your future research and are able to develop research proposals and effectively manage subsequent awards. Queen Mary is a signatory of the DORA declaration, and as such the quality of your research will be judged on its own merits.
The posts also require an effective communicator of new and complex ideas, in both verbal and written form, and the ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of the target audience. You will have teaching experience in Higher Education and be able to deliver teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level on topics relevant to the programmes delivered by the School of EECS.
About the Centre for Digital Music
The Centre for Digital Music (C4DM) is a world-leading multidisciplinary research group in the field of Music & Audio Technology. C4DM has 10 full-time academic staff and over 70 PhD students, coordinates the MSc programme in Sound and Music Computing, and hosts the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence and Music. Now approaching its 20th anniversary, the Centre is expanding its focus to encompass research in the science and technology of music from a truly multidisciplinary perspective.

With a long-established history, the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science offers a vibrant, multi-disciplinary learning and research environment. Our enthusiasm for research defines our programmes, keeping our teaching exciting and relevant. The School is well known for pioneering research and we pride ourselves on our international reputation. We are equal first in the UK for the impact of our Computer Science research, and second in the country for our Electronic Engineering research output (REF 2021).

The posts are based at the Mile End Campus in London. They are full time, permanent appointments, and are available for an immediate start, and ideally by January 2024. Starting salary for Lecturers will be in the range of £47,178 – £58,595 per annum and for Senior Lecturers / Readers is £61,896 – £69,114. Professorial salaries are competitive and will be commensurate with level, skills, and experience, starting at £75,075. All salaries are inclusive of London Allowance.
